Musings and Mutterings from a Primary Head Teacher

Nothing Better to do on a Saturday Night?

Musings and Mutterings

I think I’ve put the cart before the horse. j0163886.jpg

So eager was I to get my blog up and running (and in order to boost AB’s 118 project), that I didn’t really consider how I was going to use it. Hence I spent a good few hours last night contemplating its content.
Being a HT in Argyll and Bute means that I am privvy to my fair share of confidential information. The frustrations that I feel from time to time in my job (never?!) should not really be shared publicly and I must remain loyal to all parties I’m in contact with.
(Mental note to self: – Digest the Argyll and Bute Blogging Policy).

So, the predicament I’m in is, what does that leave me with that is still going to be worthy of reading?
Oh yes, I can wax lyrical like the best of “them” on educational matters – and no doubt will from time to time. But I want to make greater use of my space than that.

I suppose I could put down all my thoughts and musings and latest “hair-brained ideas” for others to see and comment on. I’ll certainly encourage my staff to log on regularly to give them a chance to object vehemently to a screen and not my face!

I’ll create a link to my blog from the school website (still under construction!) and encourage parents to read about the “happenings” in Cardross Primary; and may also post all my parental letters therein – like a certain colleague on the East coast.

However, I still get the feeling that I’ve missed something much bigger and I’m hoping that in time and use and in reading others it will come to me.

And that’s just the blog; what about the wikispace that I inadvertantly created in my first pathetic attempts in setting up this blog!??

Oh, and in case you were wondering – I did have something better to do on this Saturday night. All these ponderings happened en route from Edinburgh to Helensburgh coming back from a family wedding.
And yes, that certain brother of mine was involved in the musing!…

If I’m getting the blame for some educational development, then I’m proud of that!

Make sure you add yourself to the Argyll & Bute page of the scotedublogs.wikispaces.com wiki – that way a lot of other people will find you.

The blogosphere is a great place to share thoughts and ideas – think about it as HeadsTogether multiplied across contintents and not just for Head Teachers!

    blog on!

    Hi Elspeth,
Followed the link from the scotedublogs. Welcome to the Scots Edu blog community.
I am looking forward to read you and seeing the Cardross website as I went to Cardross primary many years ago (1965 -69 as far as I recall).
Look like andrew is well on his way to hitting his target!

I’ve just the better part of tonight and last night writing about why it’s good to share and why blogs etc are a wonderful thing so good to see another one up and running!

I understand the feeling! Blogging is all about communication but with most communication you have an obvious audience and purpose but with blogging the audience could be anyone and your purpose could be anything.
I think your idea of using your blog to allow parents to comment on things in the school is an excellent one. Where blogging differs from just posting your thoughts on a website or in a newsletter is that you can get feedback quickly and easily.
Now you’re on ScotEdudBlogs, you’ll probably find a regular readership throughout Scotland.

Watch this space as they say! It is addictive. When you know you have an audience…..big brother/wee brother is listening! The children respond with a huge wow factor. My lot want to see their site meter before the start of the day and keep an atlas on their tables! So Andy, it’s not just a Scottish readership. You might want to change your settings to have word verification enabled, to avoid computer generated entries. Good luck!
